July 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Team Garmin-Cervélo has punctuated an outstanding showing at the 2011 Tour de France with first place in the Team Classification prize.  Riding multiple Cervélo models Garmin-Cervélo completed the 3 week, 3471km long stage race in a total of 258 hours, 18 minutes, and 49 seconds - 11 minutes faster than the second placed team.

Along the way, Garmin-Cervélo riders experienced breakthrough performances in the world’s biggest sporting event. The entire team rode their Cervélo P4s to victory in the Stage 2 Team Time Trial, propelling World Champion Thor Hushovd into the yellow leader’s jersey.  The next day, sprinter Tyler Farrar used a ferocious turn of speed on his Cervélo R3 to capture his first Tour de France victory. And Tom Danielson excelled in the high mountains of the Pyreneés and Alps aboard ultra-light climbing machine the Cervélo R5ca to finish 9th on Overall GC in his first Tour de France appearance.

But Garmin-Cervélo’s biggest story was probably the performance of World Champion Thor Hushovd.  Riding the revolutionary Cervélo S5, Hushovd defied expectations to stay in the maillot jaune for six days.  He also captured not just one, but two, stage victories aboard the new frame, each day surviving significant climbs and dangerous descents to cross the line first, once solo and once from a 3-man sprint.

Hushovd’s victories highlight the capabilities of the Cervélo S5 , which redefines the race bike category.  The experience and feedback of pro riders like Hushovd and the rest of Team Garmin-Cervélo played an integral part in the S5’s development, a bike so aerodynamic that it saves up to an astounding 30 watts at 25mph over typical road bikes.  Integrating windtunnel-proven aerodynamics with a balance of stiffness, light weight and comfort derived from the asymmetric BBright bottom bracket, Cervélo’s S5 raises the level of possibilities for all riders.  To learn more about this revolutionary frame, please visit http://s5.cervelo.com/en_us/bikes/2011/S5/.
