World’s longest picnic table seats more than 350!

July 24, 2011 - PRLog -- In May of this year, London’s Potters Fields Park was the location for a record-breaking picnic, featuring the world’s longest picnic table which seated over 350 picnickers! More than 90 metres of riverside near Tower Bridge saw hundreds of happy people share a picnic as part of The Big Lunch event, which encourages people to have lunch with their neighbours to increase community spirit in the UK. The 2.75-tonne picnic table used at the Potters Fields Park picnic to promote The Big Lunch was created using a staggering 1,230 metres of timber and 3540 screws. It was built by a two-man team in a workshop near Southampton before final assembly in the park, where famous faces such as Mayor of London Boris Johnson and ex-Blur member Alex James rubbed shoulders with 350 fellow Londoners. The mammoth picnic bench has now been divided into smaller picnic tables which will be given to community groups and gardens across London.
