Male College Students open to a 'pill' for them.

College Guys on Sex and Birth Control: Condom use widespread amongst students, a ‘male pill’ would be a popular option for many.

July 22, 2011 - PRLog -- BOSTON, Massachusetts - If the ‘male pill’ became a reality, the majority of college guys would be open to taking it. Not too shabby considering that most men have had sexual intercourse by the time they’ve completed their freshman year of classes.

Those are just some of the findings from a recent survey of college men compiled by Her Campus Media (www.hercampus.com), with branches at over 130 colleges and universities across the United States.

“It seems that no matter how much we analyze each text, consult our wise sorority big sisters, and bug our guy friends, we’re still left in the dark about a whole lot about the college male psyche,” says Her Campus Co-founder, CEO & Editor-in-Chief Stephanie Kaplan. “This survey, and the sometimes surprising results help better educate our audience on how to deal with romantic and sexual situations in college.”

Her Campus surveyed 1,176 guys aged 18-23, from more than 350 colleges and universities across the country. The classes of 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 were almost equally represented. 64 percent of the respondents were single and 85 percent were heterosexual.

Among the findings:

-       64.7 percent of respondents say they have had their first sexual experience by their 19th birthday, meaning that a majority of those surveyed left for college having had intercourse, or lost their virginity shortly thereafter.

-       Most college guys have had relatively few sexual partners with 67.5 percent sleeping with four people or fewer. Just over 15 percent of those surveyed claimed to be virgins.

-       64.8 percent of those surveyed said they would take a form of the male birth control if made available, while 82.6 percent already admitted to using condoms in their single life. That number drops to 58.1 percent in a monogamous relationship, with 64.1 percent citing the partner’s use of ‘the Pill’ as a primary source of birth control.

-       28 percent of those surveyed said they always carried condoms with them, while 26.3 percent have either paid for, or encouraged their partner to take Plan B.

-       54.1 percent said that there is no time frame when it comes to determining the ‘accepted’ period of time to wait in a relationship before having sex. 32 percent said that sex is to be expected within the first month of a new romance.

-       As expected by such inexperience, 79.2 percent have not experimented with sex toys. Only 14.6 percent of participants have experimented in some form of ‘power play’ (BDSM) in the bedroom.
