Nature’s Nurse International’s Sponsored Fiji Rugby Team Wins District Championship!

Flagler Beach, FL – Nature’s Nurse International (NNI) and Nature’s Nurse Fiji, Ltd. are excited to announce that the Fijian Rugby team which NNI sponsors has won the district championships!  The Wailevu team is shown in the photo below in their Nature’s Nurse® uniforms.

“Sponsoring the rugby team is just one of the ways NNI helps the villages in which we harvest,” says Dr. Ted Anders, co-founder with Resina Koroi of the Nature’s Nurse® companies. “Sports builds community and develops character, positive self esteem, cooperative problem solving, and a variety of other essential life skills and traits.   In addition to donating the team’s rugby outfits, their sports gear and travel for the team is paid for, in part, by their harvest earnings from the red mangrove used in making Respigard™, Woundgard™ and the rest of our all natural Nature’s Nurse® product line here in the United States,” Dr. Anders added.

Without the Nature’s Nurse® harvest work and philanthropic contributions, the young men would not have the means to outfit their village team for competition in the national sport.

Rugby has a long history in Fiji. It was first played by European and Fijian soldiers of the Native Constabulary at Ba, on Viti Levu Island in 1884. When a group of New Zealanders built the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva in 1913, Paddy Sheehan from Dunedin -- a former captain of Otago, formed the Pacific Club. By the end of their first meeting, three more clubs were planned and eventually formed: United Services, Cadets and Rewa. Together these clubs formed the Fiji RFU although played only in Suva. Sheehan was elected chairman of the Ruby Union. Sir Ernest Bickham Sweet-Escott, the governor of the time, donated the Escott Shield for the club championship, which was won by the Pacific Club and nearly 90 years later is still competed for by Suva Union clubs.
