By: Andrew Lontos The Toronto Blue Jays are retiring former second baseman Roberto Alomar's No. 12 before their game against the Texas Rangers on July 31. It will be the first time the Blue Jays have retired a number worn by one of the team's players in the club's 35-year history. Jackie Robinson's No. 42 was retired by Major League Baseball in 1997. Alomar was an outstanding Major League Baseball player during his 17-year career. The Hall of Fame second baseman played five seasons for the Blue Jays, winning the World Series in 1992 and 1993. Alomar was an All Star and won a Gold Glove in each of those five seasons with Toronto. In total, he won 10 Gold Gloves and was selected to the All Star Game 12 times. He posted a career .300 average and .814 on base plus slugging, to go along with his sensational defense. Unfortunately, many baseball fans will remember Alomar most for spitting in umpire John Hirshbeck's face as a Baltimore Oriole in 1996. And Mets fans like myself will remember Alomar most for spending an awful year and a half in New York. Let http://www.charged.fm/ End
