SUP Mexico and Bliss Events announce the 2nd Annual Los Cabos SUP Mexico-Mike Doyle Classic

July 18, 2011 - PRLog -- (Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico) – SUP Mexico and Bliss Events Los Cabos announce the 2nd Annual Los Cabos Classic, SUP Mexico – Mike Doyle, Stand-Up Paddle Race. The Classic will take place in beautiful Los Cabos November 4 – 6, 2011, at Palmilla Beach.   The Classic benefits Campamento Tortuguero Don Manuel Orantes (Cabo Tortuga s), which supports Cabo’s sea life.  

Snell Real Estate and Del Mar Development again have signed on as the events presenting sponsors.  SUP Mexico and Bliss Events are pleased to have them on board and their continued support with stand-up paddling and to bettering our community.  It is thanks to Del Mar Development and Snell Real Estate that The Classic was a success in its inaugural year.  We look forward to having them as an intricate part of the 2011 event.  

The Classic will feature two days of races comprised of different race lengths and formats, two turtle releases, beach activities for children and adults, live entertainment, food and beverages, opening and closing ceremonies and more.  More than 100 racers are expected, including several SUP pros and amateur racers from Mexico, Canada and the United States.  

Stand-up paddling is gaining momentum as the fastest growing water sport worldwide.  SUP Mexico looks forward to showcasing this environmentally friendly sport, as well as educating locals and visitors about the importance of sea turtle preservation.

For the last 11 years, the Cabo Tortugas has been entrusted with protecting the sea turtles in Los Cabos.  They currently have five protected nests and works closely with local hotels and authorities to protect the turtles in their natural environment.

Legendary surfer and paddler, Mike Doyle, part-time resident of the Los Cabos, is this year’s Classic Ambassador. This waterman brings a spirit and passion for the water and sport that are so unique and admired by many. He has been so dear to SUP Mexico and we appreciate him taking time to be a part of this event.  Mike will race in The Classic on his new Doyle racing board, providing a demonstration on paddling to interested spectators and working with kids to teach water safety.  

The 2011 Los Cabos Classic will build on the great success of last year’s inaugural Los Cabos Classic/Stand-Up Paddle Race, where hundreds of spectators packed Palmilla’s beach to watch the two-day competition unfold and raise over $25,000 pesos for the turtles..  To view highlights from last year’s event, please visit http://vimeo.com/24231050.

About SUP Mexico  
Time to give back. SUP Mexico is striving to host a stand-up paddle event that is dedicated to our sacred ocean and the preservation of our local turtles.  Alfredo Salafranca, owner of SUP Mexico, came up with the idea to raise money for the turtles and educate our community on the importance of keeping our oceans clean and preserving the turtles that are hatched in our local and surrounding areas.    A 10-year resident of Los Cabos, Alfredo has always been involved in the outdoor business, especially around the water.  So it was his vision that came up with the idea in 2009 to create an event that would get people in the water, raise money and allow us to give something back to the ocean.  He has such love and respect for the energy that the ocean holds. He saw a need of helping the people that are involved in the local area that are making sure that the turtles can hatch, protect their eggs and better the odds of more turtles making it out in the wild.  Our goal is to raise money and provide it to the Cabo Toturga’s as well as educate our community through out the event and at the two turtle releases during the weekend.  So, as Alfredo says, come out and remember, it is time to give back!  Together, let’s build a better future of our ocean for future generations.
