Dopff au Moulin; Decanter World Wine Awards Trophy Winner
Dan Murphy’s is very pleased to announce their exclusive release of Dopff au Moulin ‘Schoenenbourg’ Riesling Grand Cru 2008 – recent winner of the 2011 Decanter World Wine Awards Regional Trophy for White Alsace over £10.
Dan Murphy’s is also pleased to release the Dopff au Moulin ‘Sporen’ Gewurztraminer Grand Cru 2008 from this highly prestigious producer; a transcendent, aromatically powerful sweet wine and a wonderful counterpoint to the Trophy winning Schoenenbourg. Extremely limited, the Grand Cru Sporen site is only 1 hectare, with the average production around 500 dozen.
Dopff au Moulin dates back to 1547, handed down through the Dopff line from father to son; it is led by the 13th generation of the family, Pierre-Etienne Dopff and is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the world. Dopff sources fruit from around 70 hectares of vineyards across Alsace, based around the medieval town of Riquewihr. The Grand Cru site Schoenenbourg (‘beautiful hill’), is a steep, south and south-west-facing riesling vineyard, which climbs from 265 to 380 metres. It is one of the last vineyards to be harvested in Riquewihr and this long growing period results in fine, ripe acidity. The marlstone, clay and calcareous sandstone soils and elevation provide the perfect exposure and drainage for Riesling production, which is why this is such a prestigious vineyard.
A beautiful and graceful wine, the nose is fine and floral, showing delicate notes of lime, honeysuckle, camomile and flint. This Grand Cru Riesling has a beautifully, silky texture, voluminous and complex fruit; with excellent mineral acidity and a dry, long, elegant finish. Screw cap** 12.5% Alc./Vol.
Dopff au Moulin ‘Sporen’ Gewurztraminer Grand Cru 2008 RRP $32.99

The Sporen vineyard is situated on a gently sloping, marlstone and clay vineyard, where Gewurztraminer reaches its zenith. The historic Sporen site was first mentioned in 1432 and is one of the most famous Grand Cru vineyards in Alsace. The vineyard is positioned in a naturally protected cirque, on gentle south-east facing slopes. Its marl and calcareous sandstone soils are renowned for making delicious dessert style wines.
This powerfully aromatic and evocative wine shows ginger, spice and rose petal aromas. Sporen is rich and intense, with Turkish delight and lychee characters on the palate. It’s generous viscosity balanced by mineral acidity, this is an outstanding dessert or aperitif style. Cork 13.5% Alc./Vol.
