July 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Oil and gas jobs are an exciting combination of danger, exhilaration, skill, challenge and hard work, and are not for the faint-hearted. The perks that come with oil and gas jobs are well worth the isolation and weeks at sea, and the thrill of working on a huge structure in the middle of the ocean is something not many other careers can match. Travelling to exotic places and seeing the world is one of the awesome bonuses that come with oil and gas jobs, as well as being around like-minded people who work hard and play hard.

There are a few different types of rigs that perform relatively similar tasks, which all require a team of tough, physically fit men to keep them running smoothly. The rigs are privately owned by a drilling contractor who has to bid for contracts in order to explore a certain area for oil. Teams rotate shifts on a 24 hour basis, and although with oil and gas jobs the men can be at sea for weeks at a time, they have generous holiday time off the rigs to spend as they see fit.

Hard work is rewarded with excellent pay packets for oil and gas jobs, and even the low-skilled positions earn a competative salary, not to mention the other benefits such as tasty hot meals served around the clock, and leisure facilities like gyms and satellite TV. Some rigs have themed menus and quiz nights to add variety to life onboard, and most have private rooms that are akin to cruise ship standards.

Before starting any oil and gas jobs,  workers must take a survival training course which covers water safety, rope-climbing skills, jumping from heights and  water saftey. This training is essential for oil and gas jobs as the weather and other factors can make the conditions potentially hazardous at times. Workers must also take other saftey precautions such as wearing earplugs, steel-toed boots, saftey glasses and hardhats almost everywhere on the rigs. Because the men are working with flamable materials, fire safety is also part of the survival course they must go through before starting any oil and gas jobs.

Work on an oil rig will change the life of the men onboard, with the lifestyle being unlike anything else they're accostomed to. There is no site of land from the rigs, and the work is tough, but a positive attitude is the key to settling in and enjoying the unique way of life. Oil and gas jobs can be very satisfying both due to the skill and hard work required, and the great pay and bonuses that come with being in the industry.
