July 15, 2011 - PRLog -- SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – June 28, 2010 – Strava (www.strava.com), creator of powerful mobile and web applications for avid athletes, announced today that Jim Ochowicz has joined the company’s Advisory Board.  Inducted into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame in 1997, Ochowicz has been involved in Olympic and professional cycling for over 40 years. Ochowicz participated in the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics in the 4-kilometer team pursuit cycling event.  He served as president of the USA Cycling Board of Directors from 2002-2006 and is currently President and General Manager of the BMC Racing Team.

“Jim’s influence and experience in cycling is unrivalled,” said Michael Horvath, CEO of Strava. “His input and advice will be invaluable to our company as we continue to grow our user community and refine our cycling-specific applications.”

“The first time I experienced Strava, I quickly understood its benefits,” said Ochowicz. “Whether they’re professionals or relative newcomers to the sport, avid cyclists are all the same -- their passion and commitment is unmatched.  Cyclists are driven to improving themselves, and Strava feeds that drive by allowing them to compare themselves to past performances and to other riders. With Strava, every ride can have the extra motivation that competition brings.”

Strava is currently focused on the needs of avid cyclists, allowing them to track their rides via their mobile phone or dedicated GPS device, analyze and quantify their performances.  Strava is a social network, with unique features including automatic climb identification and categorization, virtual climb competitions, and member-created online races letting riders share routes, compare performances, and compete with other local cyclists.
