Cardigan Cards Always a Perfect Fit
Creative partnership produces lovely upcycled wool stationery

For Immediate Release

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., July 14, 2011— Everyone has a favorite sweater – that go-to garment that not only looks great, but feels like a warm hug on a cool day. Through a new collaboration, it’s now possible to send the next best thing to a hug through the mail.

baabaazuzu, a northern Michigan boutique that has gained national attention creating wearable art and accessories, has been upcycling vintage wool sweaters for almost 20 years.  Actress Sean Young even donned their fingerless gloves during her stint on “Skating with the Stars.”

And now, the ‘zu’ is pleased to announce a partnership with Paperworks Studio, a program of Goodwill, producing an exclusive line of double-recycled wool stationery, affectionately named “Cardigan Cards.”

“We’re thrilled to work with Paperworks Studio,” said baabaazuzu founder Sue Burns. “In the days of sometimes-impersonal emails, tweets and texts, a hand-written note on a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind card is just the touch needed to convey a thought or thank you.”

No two pieces of baabaazuzu clothing are the same, due to the random nature of the production process. Once scads of reclaimed vintage wool sweaters have been felted, the resulting fabric is thoughtfully designed into unique apparel. Cardigan Cards follow this same aesthetic.

“Our customers often tell us people ask them ‘Where did you get that?’ when they’re out sporting baabaazuzu clothing or accessories,” Burns said. “I imagine the reaction to these fabulous new cards will be much the same.”

Paperworks Studio, a program of Goodwill Northern Michigan, employs more than 150 special needs and disadvantaged people and has doubled in size the last two years.  It features lines of one-of-a-kind handmade greeting cards created from blue jeans, coffee, flowers, beer and, of course, baabaazuzu’s vintage, felted wool.

“baabaazuzu Cardigan Cards are beautiful just like their clothes,” said Margaret Alexander, director of Paperworks Studio.  “I’ve admired, and owned their clothes for years.  I also admire their commitment to helping others and protecting the environment.”
