Summer Family Film Festival at the Montclair Public Library

July 13, 2011 - PRLog -- School is out and Summer is here! This is the perfect time to take an evening break with the children and head to the library on Wednesdays at 6:30pm for a movie.

July 20 The Wizard of Oz starring Judy Garland In this charming film based on the popular L. Frank Baum stories, Dorothy and her dog Toto are caught in a tornado's path and somehow end up in the land of Oz. Here she meets some memorable friends and foes in her journey to meet the Wizard of Oz who everyone says can help her return home and possibly grant her new friends their goals of a brain, heart and courage.

July 27  The Wiz starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson Twenty-four-year-old
Dorothy--a kindergarten teacher born, raised, and still working in Harlem--is
celebrating Thanksgiving with her extended family, but she doesn't seem to be
thankful for much in life. She lives a self-imposed sheltered life; she is shy and unfulfilled. Things change for her when she is caught up in a snowstorm while chasing after her dog, Toto. She and her dog are transported to the mysterious land of Oz, where she is informed that the only possible way to find her way back to New York is through the assistance of the powerful wizard in the Emerald City. As Dorothy goes searching for the wizard, she befriends some creatures who are facing problems in life just like her. In their quest to find and get help from the wizard,they also face Evillene, the equally evil sister of Evermean, the wicked witch whom Dorothy inadvertently killed when she entered Oz, and who may be their biggest obstacle in achieving their dreams.

August   3  Flight of the Navigator starring Joey Cramer and Sarah Jessica Parker After a mystifying disappearance aboard a spectacular, futuristic spacecraft, David Freeman returns to earth possessing vast, undiscovered knowledge about the farthest reaches of the universe. With these sudden navigational powers, David is able to take the fantastic flying machine anywhere he desires.

August 10 Sleeping Beauty (animation) When a new princess is born to King Stefan & his wife, the entire kingdom rejoices. At a ceremony, three good fairies - Flora, Fauna & Merryweather - bestow gifts of magic on the child. But an evil sorceress named Maleficent shows up, and because of a rude remark by Merryweather, she places a curse on the princess - that she will die on her 16th birthday after touching a poisoned spinning wheel. Merryweather tries to undo the damage by casting a spell that will allow the princess - named Aurora - to awake from an ageless sleep with a kiss from her true love. The fairies take Aurora to their cottage in the woods to keep her away from the eyes of Maleficent, and raise her as their own child, named Briar Rose. On her 16th birthday Aurora meets Prince Phillip, the son of a king
whose own kingdom will soon merge with King Stefan's - and falls in love. Maleficent manages to kidnap the Prince and her horrible prophecy is fulfilled when she tricks Aurora into touching a spinning wheel created by Maleficent herself! Realizing that the Prince is in trouble, the 3 good fairies head to Maleficent's castle at the Forbidden Mountain, and spring the Prince loose. But the Prince soon finds himself up against Maleficent's army of brutes, and the power of Maleficent's evil spells - which include a thorn forest as thick as weeds around King Stefan's castle, and a fight against Maleficent when she turns herself into a dragon! Is the Prince strong enough to withstand the powers of the evil sorceress?

August 31 Pinocchio (animation)Inventor Gepetto creates a wooden marionette
called Pinocchio. His wish that Pinocchio be a real boy is unexpectedly granted by a fairy. The fairy assigns Jiminy Cricket to act as Pinocchio's "conscience" and keep him out of trouble. Jiminy is not too successful in this endeavor and most of the film is spent with Pinocchio deep in trouble.
