July 13, 2011 - PRLog -- Breathe N Flow Yoga studio held their first Yin Yoga class Saturday, June 25th, with plans to permanently implement this new practice of Yoga into their daily scheduled classes. Breathe N Flow Yoga studio was very excited to introduce this new class, and they are proud to be the pioneers of Yin Yoga on Long Island, being one of the first studios here on the island to offer this particular style of Yoga.

What is Yin Yoga?  Yin Yoga is a quiet, inward focused practice that affects the flow of energy through the body. Yin Yoga has the same goals and objectives as any other school of yoga; however, it directs the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues (which are called the yang tissues). Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.

Yin Yoga is suitable for all levels of students, and is a perfect complement to other styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.  While initially this style of yoga can seem quite boring, passive, or soft, Yin Yoga practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses. One can remain in the postures anywhere from five to twenty minutes! Yin and yang tissues respond quite differently to being exercised. You need to experience this to really know what Yin Yoga is all about. After you have experienced it, even just once, you will realize that you have been doing only half of the asana practice.

Breathe N Flow Yoga studio is proud to pave the way for Yin Yoga practice on Long Island. Breathe N Flow Yoga studio is known for their Vinyasa Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, and Kids Yoga in Nassau county; yet they continue to make strides to impact yoga practitioners from all counties.  Owner and head Yogini, Leah Hartofelis received her Yin Yoga certification from Corina Benner of Wake up Yoga at Om Yoga Center in New York City. From there, Leah was able to translate her experience directly to Breathe N Flow Yoga students and staff.

“The training for Yin Yoga was so inspirational; it not only enhanced my teaching style but enlightened me mentally and physically, I am thrilled to be able to take my students to the next level with Yin Yoga.” said Leah.

Yin Yoga focuses on deep stretching movements that can enhance your body’s wide range of motion and build flexibility. Yin Yoga is a healthy way to build and or regain flexibility through the process of rejuvenating and strengthening your body’s muscles and joints. The classes will be offered Thursday evenings at 7:15 and Saturday mornings at 9 at the peaceful family yoga studio located in Freeport, NY.

Yin Yoga improves the body in many different ways.  Yin Yoga helps regulate energy levels (chi) and will leave you feeling calm and balanced, with lower stress levels and greater stamina.  Yin Yoga helps to combat the effects of aging such as rigidness of joints and muscles and decrease in flexibility. By utilizing the effects of gravity, Yin Yoga naturally induces stretching and lengthening.    You will also find improved meditation and deeper relaxation.

Some Breathe N Flow Yoga students have already had the chance to experience this unique class, and have been instantly drawn to the remarkable results, both emotionally and physically. One Breathe N Flow Yoga student was eager to expand his practice and provide personal feedback. The student openly expressed great enthusiasm about the Yin Yoga class and described his experience with the studio.

“I really enjoyed this new class, I have never tried Yin Yoga before and I like the passive style of the practice, in comparison to the high energy class I am accustomed to. Overall I’d say it is an A+ get loose workout!” said Don S.

Breathe N Flow Yoga is a family owned and run studio and was established in August 2010. From its respectful beginning the studio has been aimed at being the first family oriented yoga studio on Long Island that offers classes to everyone at the convenience of the student and their family. Breathe N Flow Yoga studio is constantly growing with dedicated staff, students, and instructors, that all uniquely add a very personal flare to their teaching.  Breathe N Flow Yoga studio’s vision is to offer Yoga to the community while creating an environment that is welcoming to everyone.
