July 12, 2011 - PRLog -- The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce announces that over twenty new jobs have recently been created in the Indian River County/City of Vero Beach Enterprise Zone. The Chamber’s economic development office coordinates the Enterprise Zone program.
Vero Millwork, located off 45th Street, hired two new workers earlier this year.  Community Asphalt added three new positions in the last two months.  Felix’s Cuban Restaurant recently relocated to Aviation Boulevard and has already hired 17 employees, many of them residents of the Enterprise Zone (http://indianriverchamber.com/index.cfm?method=EconomicDevelopment.Ezone).  Businesses located within the Enterprise Zone can apply for certain tax credits and sales tax refunds when they create new jobs, purchase equipment, and construct or renovate a building located in the Zone.  The Gifford community and the Vero Beach Airport (http://www.covb.org/index.asp?Type=B_LIST&SEC=%7BBBC89511-6BE2-4704-9415-336D490D6724%7D) are within the Zone boundary.  The Chamber of Commerce is working with all three companies to assist them in applying for applicable tax credits and refunds.
Helene Caseltine, Economic development Director and Coordinator of the Enterprise Zone stated “Businesses located in the Enterprise Zone are eligible for a variety of benefits simply as a result of their physical location. “  A business in the Enterprise Zone that creates a new job and hires a resident of the Zone for that new job can apply for a sales tax credit or corporate tax credit based on a percent of the new employee’s monthly wage.  “The three employers who most recently have hired additional employees are perfect examples of the how the Enterprise Zone designation works on behalf of businesses to promote job growth and retention in our community” stated Caseltine.
In addition to the benefits provided for additional hires, an Enterprise Zone company can apply for a refund of the state sales taxes they’ve paid on the purchase of new equipment used in the Zone.  A business, or an individual, can also apply for a refund of state sales tax paid on building materials used to construct or renovate a building or home.
Enterprise Zone information and applications are available on the Chamber website, http://indianriverchamber.com/.
If you have a business within the Enterprise Zone, or have questions about the benefits available through the program, please call Helene Caseltine at 772-567-3491 ext. 121.
