NSCS Announces 2011 Community College Transition Award Recipients

July 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Luis Velasquez of Northern Virginia Community College and Muslima Razaqyar of Hillsborough Community College are the 2011 recipients of The Community College Transition Award.

Velasquez and Razaqyar will receive $2,500 toward the cost of tuition at their respective schools.  They received this award through The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), an honors organization inviting high-achieving freshmen and sophomores in the top 20% of their class.

“It was difficult to choose this year’s recipients because we had such a great group of applications,” said Richard Failla, member of the Scholarship Review Committee. “That being said, Luis’ and Muslima’s stood out from the crowd as being exceptionally written, moving and inspiring.”

The Community College Transition Award is awarded to two outstanding NSCS members at a community college who are transferring into a four-year institution.

“We created this scholarship to help outstanding community college students make the transition into a four-year university a little more easily,” said Kayla Manning, Scholarships Manager. “We want to support all of our members in the pursuit of their goals and ambitions.”

The Hillsborough Community College NSCS chapter was founded in 2009. The Northern Virginia Community College was founded in 2010.
