July 12, 2011 - PRLog -- The warning follows a spate of emergency calls from wedding venues who suddenly realised their septic tanks were full and creating nasty smells.

CountyClean Environmental Services Commercial Director Darren Baldwin explained: “Sewage smells can ruin an event, not to mention the health and environmental hazards that can arise if people let their septic tanks overflow. We have been extremely busy lately because people have not scheduled regular emptying and have ended up paying extra charges for emergency call outs.”

But it’s not just business premises that need to plan ahead, stresses Darren, many homes in rural areas don’t have mains drainage.

“We’re optimistic that the warm weather will return so, if you have a septic tank at home now is the time to get it emptied. When you have family or friends over for a BBQ, the last thing you want is smells drifting from your septic tank. Also, it’s a good idea to have your tank emptied while the ground is still fairly dry. People should also have their septic tanks regularly cleaned to keep them working safely and effectively.”
