Miss California Latina Announces The Winners Of The Bettie Page Clothing Statewide Search

Among the selected to compete at the state competition is a US Navy Sailor from San Diego, a political activist from Hollywood, and a theater major from San Francisco

July 9, 2011 - PRLog -- The Miss California Latina Organization announced the winners of the Bettie Page Clothing, statewide search for the next Miss California Latina. The search was held at the Bettie Page boutiques in San Francisco, Hollywood, and San Diego.

Hundreds of Latinas throughout the state of California participated in the search for the chance to be selected to compete in the 2011 pageant. One winner from each city was chosen by Bettie Page Clothing to compete in the competition, all expenses paid.

Bridget Carroll, 21, a US Navy personal originally from New York, said she is proud and excited to compete as Miss Coronado Latina. As a first timer participating in something of this sort, Carroll, of Puerto Rican and Irish descent, was a standout at the San Diego search.

Political and social activist Lizelle Gutierrez, 23, of Mexican descent from Los Angeles, took home the title of Miss Hollywood Latina at the Hollywood search.

“Running for Miss California Latina is embracing inner and outer courage, wisdom, beauty and strength”, said Gutierrez. “It is an honor to represent the legendary Bettie Page who has empowered many women throughout the years.”

The Miss San Francisco title went to Camila Ascencio, who is of Salvadorian and Cuban descent. The 18 year old speaks four languages including Cantonese and Mandarin and will be studying to become an actress at New York University in 2012.

“I am so excited to be a part of a pageant that is about intelligent, smart, well rounded Latin women” said Ascencio, about her selection at the San Francisco search.

To qualify as a contestant, participants have to be natural born females, of at least 25 percent Latin descent, between the ages of 13-26, living in the state of California for the past six months, never married and no children.

The Miss and Teen California Latina pageant competition will include 40 other participants from the state. The final competition will take place on Sunday, November 6th at 6pm, at the Long Beach Convention Center.

Betty Page Clothing will showcase their collection at the annual 2011 Miss and Teen California Latina Purple Carpet Media Event on November 4th in Hollywood, California, as well as at the state pageant competition.
