* The main market drivers are the improving economy, rising income levels and a growing demand for health insurance. The most likely to grow are health and accident, credit and catastrophic risk insurance. * The insurance industry in Mexico, and across Latin America, is experiencing increased consolidation and market share of foreign multinationals. * Competitive conditions will likely remain tough, not least because of the willingness and ability of (wealthy) households and (large) businesses to cover risks through US insurers. * There are substantial opportunities for niche non-life insurance products, such as education, transport and natural hazard insurance. Mexico's economic activity appears strong at present, but with the consumer story not yet convincing and high oil prices likely to dampen demand for exports, we forecast below-consensus real GDP growth of 4.0% year-on-year (y-o-y) for 2011. The economy is expected to remain an underperformer among the emerging markets for the duration of the five-year forecast period. Without any significant tax or energy reform on the horizon, the economy will fail to overcome its structural fiscal weakness. ------------------------------------------------------------ Full Report Details at - http://www.fastmr.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Life premiums, after growth of 9.3% y-o-y in 2010, are expected to slow considerably from 2011, recovering towards the end of the forecast period. The restrictive growth in life premiums will largely be due to substantial and increasing competition. Also, Mexico's life insurance sector is dominated by major foreign groups. More generally, Mexico's insurance industry lags behind other equivalent economies, partly because many Mexicans who can afford to use financial services are willing and able to work with providers in the US rather than local firms. Non-life premiums declined slightly in 2010, by 1.8% y-o-y. However, the value of premiums is expected to grow by about 8.0% y-o-y over 2011 and then to continue growing, but at a lesser rate, through to the end of our forecast period.
