Follow on Google News | Artist Eleazar Delgado to Collaborate with Donald and Lisa Pliner in Support of Foster ChildrenSix Week Art Program will Provide Children with New Creative Outlets
By: JLPR With 310,250 children entering the foster care system annually in the United States, the call for support cannot be ignored. In honor of this national concern, Tune for Peace Summer Camps is offering 25 foster children the opportunity to attend a six-week program offering peace and reassurance through a variety of specially-crafted weekly programs in the areas of music, art and design. The mission of the program is to introduce children to the joys and benefits of fine art, helping each of them to realize their full creative potential and giving them the chance to embrace the possibilities that can be achieved through artistic expression. In an effort to expose the children to the wonderful world of art, Tune for Peace Summer Camps has tapped some of Miami’s best, including multimedia artist Eleazar Delgado, a seasoned professional in the areas of architecture and interior design, who will lead the camp’s art instruction in a 2-week program that will touch on Miami’s history, his current source of inspiration." The end result will be colorful Miami-history inspired canvases created by the children that will be unveiled at the final showcase event on Wednesday, July 20th at 2PM. Michelle Maniaci, creator of Nurturing Moves, a spiritual approach to letting go, healing and energizing, who is carrying out the programs yoga lessons, and jewelry designer Taryn Aronson, creator of unique, intricately crafted fine and fashion jewelry, to teach jewelry design, along with Bolivian artist, David Banegas, and international signer and pianist, Phyllisia Ross. World-renowned Miami Symphony Orchestra led a two-week extensive music program where the children learned to play a song. The result was incredible and even more amazing was the increase in confidence of these children. “I am very proud of Donald and Lisa Pliner’s benevolent community initiative and honored to take part in such an inspiring project. I hope to inspire these amazing children as much as they’ve already inspired me as they tap into their creativity,” The children’s camp is being organized through Voices for Children, an organization that works to ensure that every abandoned and neglected foster child has a Guardian ad Litem. Donald and Lisa Pliner believe that communication is the key to peace, and what better form of communication than the arts, “We aim to teach the children that their efforts are part of a bigger picture. This will be done with the hope that when they do grow up, they too lend a hand to those in need”. Local celebrities are scheduled to make surprise appearances throughout the program to inspire and share their stories with the children. The final event, where the children will display all of their accomplishments, will take place July 20, 2011 at 2PM at Cushman School located at 592 Northeast 60th Street.
