July 8, 2011 - PRLog -- The majority of goods sold in the UK must have CE Marking. This means that they have been properly checked for safety and comply with European standards.

CE Marking should be on all electrical goods, toys, equipment such as prams and white goods like fridges and washing machines.

CE marking is used to ensure that all products are made to the same standards wherever they are manufactured.

When buying products you should always check for the CE mark because that way you can rest assured that whatever you are buying is safe to use.

Buying items with this mark also protects your statutory rights should there be a problem with the product.

Different types of goods need to undergo different types of testing. If you are buying electrical items they should have undergone rigorous testing to test for safety such as the possibility of overheating.

Toys or baby products such as prams will be tested to see if they can withstand the wear and tear that they might be expected to endure.

In addition items which fold or have small parts such as a pram may present a danger to children’s fingers or may be swallowable.

Only products sold within the EU need to have CE marking. In the USA, China and Indian there are different safety standards, however, any product bought outside of the EU should still have undergone safety checks.

If manufacturers from other countries wish to sell their products within the EU then they must ensure that their products are CE marked.

If you are a manufacturer and you are not sure what tests have to be carried out in order to achieve the CE mark you can consult the CE marking association to find out.

Experts from this association will be able to inform you what tests need to be undertaken, where you can go to get these tests carried out and what paperwork and certification you will need to have in place to achieve the CE mark. Once you have carried out all the necessary tests it will be legal for you to sell your product within the EU.

If you are buying a product in the EU and you are not sure if it is CE marked ask in store or go online before you buy where you will be able to check the facts about product safety. If you can’t find out whether the product has the correct marking then it is advisable not to buy it.
