July 8, 2011 - PRLog -- V Magazine’s celebrity-heavy Fall Preview issue is devoted to the idea of transformation and gives pride of place to the stunning cover celeb, Penelope Cruz. Inside Ms Cruz simmers in Mert & Marcus’ neon-dripping images that accompany Mark Jacobs’ ode to the perfect Hollywood actress. Anna Paquin undergoes an even more dramatic transformation in Sebastien Faena’s photos, styled by Sally Lyndley, that accompany her interview with Nick Haramis. Television’s favourite dark heroine gets made over as a 1930’s-style – well actually more than one- screen goddess and shows that it’s a look that clearly suits her. And Paris Hilton who has had more comebacks than a boomerang is transformed yet again for Daniele & Iango’s fashion shoot. In its lush monochrome pics, Paris profiles hot looks from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton and Yohji Yamamoto, amongst others, sporting a new pale-lipped, kohl-eyed look that is very 1960’s; think revamped Françoise Hardy for a svelte winter.

Continuing the sixties flavour, Josh Olins’ fashion story ‘Baby Love’ really is stunning. Picking up on the 1960’s feel in the collections by everyone from Stella McCartney and Lanvin to Bottega Veneta and Balmain, Olins creates a beautifully nostalgic shoot with an Asian twist, brimming with retro hip. Just to give some idea of how strong the 1960’s feel is for the coming season: almost any one of these photos could pass for an archival photo of that exuberant point in the 1960’s when many east Asian societies underwent momentous change. Olins’ camera effectively re-enacts that very particular time when many young women discarded traditional cultural aesthetics and succumbed to western-style pop mania and even started producing their own girl groups too.

Transformation of a much more personal nature is inherent in Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin’s stark shoot, styled by Nicola Formichetti, of Nomi Ruiz, the Amazonian transgendered siren of New York’s music underground. Making the transition from vocalist on numerous Hercules & The Love Affair hits to fronting her own new band Jessica 6, Inez & Vindooh’s uncluttered photos capture a diva at the moment of a new birth, emerging like Botticelli’s Venus, fully formed and full of self-confidence and, as usual, much, much more top art, design, lifestyle and celebrity packing the issue from top to toe.
