The New Face of Dentistry

Local Dentist Goes Beyond Your Average Toothache

July 7, 2011 - PRLog -- It’s expensive and time consuming; nevertheless, dental problems more than just affecting the hard and soft tissues in your mouth will have an effect on your general health and inevitably on your everyday social interactions. This link between dental problems and psycho-social issues is a subject of great concern for Dr. Oscar Marin who practices in West Covina, California.

“People never stop to think that simple issues like bad breath could have serious impact on your interpersonal relationships. For example if you were a business owner conducting interviews for a receptionist position. Will you consider hiring someone whose teeth are yellow, crooked, or if he or she had bad breath? Or will you be inclined to hire someone with a white and fresh smile?” states Dr. Marin. In the same way he thinks that crooked teeth or missing teeth cause children and adults alike to be teased by their peers and can produce bad grades and underperforming employees as suggested by research conducted by Shaw WC¹. Dr. Marin shares that one of his patients confessed him that prior to his dental work he was being teased, and now the same coworkers have found a new target to tease.

Most people wait until the last minute to deal with problems that could have been prevented with a much simpler procedure. That makes an average worker spend three or four times more money and time off work than if caught sooner. The average cost for a dental filling is $125, a procedure that can be done in one visit; however, if left untreated it could need root canal treatment and crown which go for about $1800 a 1400% increase and will require multiple visits.

“We want to help people not only to avoid dealing with painful dental problems, but also to prevent the arguments about money for dental treatment and asking for time off school or work.” Since most dental problems will have an impact on your general health, investing time for a complete evaluation could end up saving you a great deal of grief over more serious health matters.
