Natural Food Retailer Gives $69K to Hudson Valley's Hungry
Family-owned natural food market donated $69K to Food Bank of Hudson Valley. For the 3rd year, Mother Earth's Storehouse presented the check to Food Bank's Toni Gutter. The contribution is possible thanks to the generosity of the store's customers.
Every time a Mother Earth's Storehouse customer presents their "Rewards Plus Card" to the clerk at the time of check-out, 1% of accumulated purchase amounts is set aside for the next annual donation. In this case "Buying Local" has not only benefited the area's economy but also helped distressed families in the Hudson Valley area. It's a substantial sum, though the problem of hunger is disturbingly large. New York's Hudson Valley region is only a short distance from the Big Apple's core; New York City. Though thousands of families and their children go to bed without a bite. It's a statistic that's not lost on owner/brothers of Mother Earth's Storehouse.
"Our customers are socially-conscience and feel a responsibility for the world around them", explained Chris Schneider. He continued, "Using the "Rewards Plus Card" is a hassle-free way to give back to neighbors whom are less fortunate." The Food Bnk of Hudson Valley was the logical organization to contribute to. They in-turn distribute the food stuff to member soup kitchens, pantries and emergency shelters, day care centers, senior programs, and rehabilitation programs. Six counties are served including Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Sullivan, Putnam and Rockland.
