6,000 Educators to Attend Staff Development for Educators’ Conferences Focusing on Differentiated Instruction, Singapore Math Strategies and Teaching Kindergarten

Two Pre-Conference Events Feature New Ways to Connect Technology and Students,
and Differentiated Instruction for Administrators

PETERBOROUGH, N.H. — July 5, 2011 — Improving student achievement begins with improving classroom instruction, and teachers and administrators have voiced their need constantly to expand their knowledge and skills to support every child. Driven by that commitment, more than 6,000 educators from across the country will attend the Staff Development for Educators™ (SDE) 2011 national professional development conferences in Las Vegas from July 11–15.

“SDE’s national conferences provide in-depth, hands-on strategies to improve instruction in some of the most important aspects of education,” said SDE President, Gerald Hughes. “Our goal is not only to provide educators with access to the leading experts in their field, but also to provide an opportunity for the kind of peer-to-peer interaction and collaboration that can happen only during in-person events such as these.”

The events, which are sponsored in part by SMART Technologies, are among the largest professional gatherings of educators in the country. These rigorous, multi-day, multi-track events bring the nation’s leading education experts together and feature nearly 600 sessions.

The National Conference on Differentiated Instruction includes 285 impactful workshops and interactive sessions from the country’s most respected experts on Differentiated Instruction. The comprehensive, four-day agenda provides educators with innovative strategies for planning and implementing differentiated instruction; best practices to engage, motivate and unlock the potential of both struggling and gifted students; and leadership strategies to prime a school environment for success.

SDE’s Differentiated Instruction Administrator Summit will be offered on July 11 as a one-day, pre-conference event. The content-rich agenda starts with the dynamic and motivating keynote speaker, Todd Whitaker, who will show administrators how to support positive change by encouraging and empowering the “good guys” within the school environment. A full day of engaging, strategy-packed breakout sessions will explore a range of leadership topics including practical problem solving, coaching techniques and sustainability strategies for differentiated instruction, and expert advice for effective time management, coping with stress, and using technology to be a more dynamic leader.

Administrators, math coaches and teachers will all benefit from tried-and-true implementation techniques and breakthrough instructional strategies at the National Conference on Singapore Math Strategies. The four-day event will feature a team of world-class presenters who will share best practices for implementing Singapore Math strategies regardless of whether full adoption is needed or simply weaving into current curriculum. In addition, there will be tips for basic lesson development, techniques for providing intervention and differentiation, as well as procedures for the use of assessments, RTI and technology to guide instruction within the Singapore Math model. Of particular note, the closing session will provide attendees a unique opportunity to see Singapore Math instruction in action as expert educators model a 30-minute classroom lesson with local students who will be experiencing Singapore Math for the very first time.

The I Teach K! National Kindergarten Teacher Conference will energize educators with new teaching methods for early literacy and numeracy, techniques for improved classroom management and student engagement, tips for infusing technology into the kindergarten curriculum, and strategies for implementing Differentiated Instruction and Response to Intervention. Dr. Jean Feldman, a nationally renowned author and leading expert on early childhood learning, will begin the four-day conference with a fun and enlightening keynote presentation titled “Back to Our Roots,” followed by scores of sessions from the country’s top kindergarten-focused educators that are sure to have an immediate and lasting impact on every attendee.

In addition, SDE will offer all attendees a pre-conference session called PowerUp! Connecting Technology to Today’s Learners. This daylong event will give educators instructional strategies for implementing interactive whiteboard lessons, utilizing tools such as wikis and blogs, and integrating iPads, iPods, Flip cameras and other tools to engage and motivate “digital natives”—students who were born into a technology-centric world.
