1950s Eames Chairs Added to Vintage Seekers’ Design Collection

A line of white Herman Miller edition Eames armshells from the 1950s have recently been listed on 20th century design and collectibles site Vintage Seekers.

July 5, 2011 - PRLog -- These vintage Eames chairs are icons of the mid-century modern design aesthetic. In fact, the Washington Post once remarked that the Eames chair "changed how the 20th century sat down”.

Like most Eames seating produced after World War Two, this 1950s set was manufactured in the USA by the progressive furniture manufacture, Herman Miller. Made of walnut wood and fiberglass these chairs balance a smooth white shell seat on dowel base.

The Vintage Seekers Eames Miller chairs are in an off-white fiberglass, rather than the more common parchment shade. They are just one example of the visual legacy of legendary American design duo Ray and Charles Eames, who started up their own practice in 1944. The designer George Nelson introduced them to Herman Miller in 1946, sparking a long-lasting business partnership.

Vintage Seekers is a unique site dedicated to original 20th century design and collectibles. Inspired by the authenticity, style and integrity of products that have stood the test of time, bringing together the best examples of design, fashion, motoring, watches, wine and memorabilia.
