July 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Ezega.com, Ethiopia’s leading internet portal, reported many interesting news and business data this week. The leading stories of the week were in relation to the UN Security Council’s consent to deployment of Ethiopian peacekeepers to monitor withdrawal of Sudanese forces and to reduce tension in the Abyei region. There is widespread concern about the boiling situation in Abyei, especially as thousands of civilians stand displaced and numerous others remain stranded in the disputed region.

Also in the news was the arrest of nine individuals, including two journalists and two opposition members, in Ethiopia for allegedly plotting terrorism attack. The Ethiopia police allege that the arrested individuals were financially backed by the Eritrean Government to organize a group to plan attacks on power and telecommunication infrastructure. The Ethiopian Government has rejected claims that the journalists had been detained to suppress the freedom of expression.

Another important piece of Ethiopian news during the week was about the United Nations Development Programme’s announcement that it would collaborate with the Ethiopian Agriculture Ministry to support the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency after the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation promised a grant of $11.8 million.
