"Put On Your Parky Face" is the story of Schmalfeldt's 11-year struggle with Parkinson's disease, including his volunteering for experimental brain surgery in 2007 as part of a clinical trial seeking new and better treatments for this progressive neurological disorder. "I am one of 15 people in the United States to undergo this procedure," the 56-year old Elkridge, Md., resident said. The book takes a light-hearted, self-effacing approach to a very serious subject. He is unable to walk unassisted, he has trouble swallowing liquids and solids without choking, his balance is hampered and he sometimes has trouble speaking without stuttering. "I decided that in order to be a true Tea Party member or a true Christian, one would either have to change his heart... or change the Bible. I opted to change the Bible," Schmalfeldt said. In his hilarious Tea Party Bible, Schmalfeldt twists the verses in Scripture to match the "I got mine, you get yours," mindset so prevalent in the Tea Party.
