June 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Adrienne K. Lumpkin, president of Alternate Access®, a leading provider of Voice over IP phone systems and related communication solutions, received the 2010-2011 Public Policy Advocate award from NAWBO Greater Raleigh at the association’s 33rd Annual Meeting and Celebration. At the event, held on Thursday, June 23, 2011, five members were recognized for excellence in varying areas.

Donna Peery, principal of Five Star Staffing, presented Lumpkin with the award, which recognizes the accomplishments of one outstanding individual who has engaged in activities that enhance women business owners through public policy and has promoted NAWBO in the public policy arena. Lumpkin was also acknowledged for her community advocacy efforts, including her staunch support of strong policies for equity in public school education.

“This award was a wonderful surprise, and I am honored to have been nominated by my NAWBO sisters,” Lumpkin said. “The Greater Raleigh chapter of NAWBO is an empowering force for women business owners. I believe that when it comes to public policy, we all have a voice and the inner strength to use it. The organization advocates for women business owners and encourages us to use our leadership to fight for those issues important to us.”

Lumpkin has been an active NAWBO Greater Raleigh member for 15 years, having served as 2004-05 president and as a corporate sponsor since 2003. Over the past year, she has served on the association’s advocacy team and participated in the NAWBO Greater Raleigh Day at the Legislature. She also assisted in hosting the annual public policy luncheon, inviting representation from the North Carolina Center for Women in Public Service and providing information to NAWBO members who could benefit from public service education.

Peery, NAWBO Greater Raleigh past president and chair of the awards, called the 2010-2011 winners an amazing group of women. She explained, “This year’s winners have demonstrated exemplary vision and leadership in their organizations, communities, and industries. Each of them continued to find ways to grow their businesses and give back to others. I could not be more proud to recognize these very deserving women and shine the spotlight on their accomplishments.”

Along with Lumpkin, the other four award winners were:  Corporate Partner of the Year – Kristin Adams, Afterglow Cosmetics; Rising Star of the Year – Orna Drawas, OrnaSpeaks; Mary Diener Spirit Award – Lorraine Johnson, Triangle Financial Advisors; Woman Business Owner of the Year – Lisa Feierstein, Active Healthcare.
