Active Controls Presents JoyBar at Mobility Roadshow

June 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Inventor and mobility pioneer Michael Flowers created the JoyBar alternative drive control as a way to solve a problem obvious in the power mobility industry:  Difficulty using a joystick control.  The JoyBar solves this problem by offering scooter style controls for a an electric power wheelchair for the first time.  At this year’s Mobility Roadshow (the original, biggest and best showcase of mobility and lifestyle products in the UK), Active Controls will debut it’s latest prototype for consumer feedback as they prepare for the JoyBar’s official launch this fall.

The JoyBar is the first drive control for power wheelchairs to electronically process turning (steering wheel) and acceleration (gas pedal) separately. The benefit of this is that the JoyBar eliminates the need for a new power mobility user to re-learn how their brain processes “driving a vehicle.” At the time in their lives when people need to embrace power mobility to maintain their independence, the JoyBar may make the difference between success and failure.

The JoyBar will widen the amount of people who are able to use power wheelchairs, especially among the elderly and the neurologically impaired.  It may even convert some current power wheelchair users, as it is more fun to drive, less stigmatizing, more durable and less susceptible to bumps and inadvertent movement when compared to the traditional joystick hand control.
