June 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Ezega.com, Ethiopia’s leading internet portal, reported many interesting news and business data this week. The leading Ethiopian news story of the week was the agreement between the North and South Sudanese governments to replace the Sudanese Army Force with the Ethiopian troops in the disputed Abyei region. The agreement will allow the displaced people to return to their homes. Both sides will establish an administration council and a joint committee to be co-chaired by their respective governments.

Also in the news was the volcanic eruption in Eritrea, which sent ash to many Ethiopian villages, leaving villagers stranded and wanting for water, food, and other essential commodities. The ash from the erupting Dubbi volcano darkened the sky, causing flight cancellations in Ethiopia and many other neighboring countries.

Another important piece of Ethiopian news during the week was about the Ethiopian Government’s lifting of price caps, following which food prices soared to a great extent, making many essential commodities go beyond the reach of the common man. The government blames the rising prices of food products in the international market, whereas the IMF accuses the Addis Ababa Administration of creating inflation by printing more notes to fund development projects. Earlier, the government’s imposition of price caps had also backfired, creating turmoil in the market.
