Follow on Google News | New Internationl School in Panama PacificoWith plans to acquire and use the latest in classroom technology, Panama Pacifico Academy (PPA) is bound to become a leader on the burgeoning international education scene.
By: Juan B. McKay The school’s curriculum centers on strengthening core values, as well as teamwork and leadership skills. Thus, students will be encouraged to dedicate their time to worthy causes and community service, even as they challenge themselves and strive for academic achievement. The holistic approach aims to teach students how to analyze events and situations. The approach will help them develop different aspects of their personalities to achieve a balance between the physical and the academic…the social and the emotional. Most high schools in Panama steer students toward either business or science and arts. Students choose schools and/or programs at the age of 15, depending on their interests. Panama Pacifico Academy, however, will do things differently. PPA Principal Wendy McArthur brings many years of local and international experience to the table; under her leadership, the school will offer the first "International Baccalaureate Program" in western Panama. The goal is to help students develop the skills they need to gain admission to the best universities in the world. During a recent event McArthur thanked Panama Pacifico for the support and warm welcome given her and the new school, adding that the project is the result of many years of effort and dedication. Panama Pacifico Agency Administrator Olmedo Alfaro applauded the project, emphasizing how significant the new school will be to the Panama Pacifico Special Economic Area. The General Manager of London & Regional Panama, Henry Kardonski, echoed that sentiment, saying that the school would add value to the area and its residents. Education Minister Lucy Molinar, who was also present for the official announcement, described PPA as an important addition to the national education system. Said Molinar, PPA students will be poised to receive the best education and to better help their country face the challenges that lie ahead. Panama Pacifico Academy isn’t the first school to choose the strategically located Special Economic Zone for its installations. Three schools are already operating or slated to begin operations here within the next year.
