Darryl Strawberry Tees Off Against Autism

(East Meadow, NY) - Baseball Legend Darryl Strawberry, already a devoted warrior in the fight against autism, announces another exciting chapter in his fund-raising crusade.

The world-famous "Straw" is gearing up for the Fifth Annual Darryl Strawberry Celebrity Golf Tournament, set for Sept. 20 at the historic Eisenhower Park Red Course in East Meadow, N.Y.  The event benefits his Darryl Strawberry Foundation Fight for Autism."

The Darryl Strawberry Foundation is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to helping those who suffer from autism, and funding research to stop this silencing condition.

Strawberry is an eight-time Major League All-Star with four World Series titles leading his many diamond accomplishments. Since emerging as the National League Rookie of the Year in 1983, he ranked among the game's leading sluggers for the best part of a decade.

Last year he was named to the New York Mets Hall of Fame, and the New York Times called him one of the 20 most popular celebrities in the Big Apple.

Also last year, he appeared on Donald Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice" TV show, proving himself a true team player and earning Trump's respect as well as a sizable donation to Strawberry's anti-autism campaign.

His 2009 book, "Straw: Finding My Way," made the New York Times and Los Angeles Times best-seller lists.

A two-time cancer survivor, he is also a youth outreach advocate.

But since he founded his "Fight for Autism" with the Darryl Strawberry Foundation in 2006, this charity has sustained his energy and interest.
