June 21, 2011 - PRLog -- The Embassy of Nicaragua in Washington D.C. and the Nicaraguan Tourism Board (INTUR, for its acronym in Spanish) successfully showcased Nicaragua’s art, culture and cuisine during the fourth annual Around the World Embassy Tour, organized by Cultural Tourism DC, with the support of the Municipal Office of Washington D.C. and the Department of State.

Nicaragua’s Embassy, located in New Hampshire Avenue, was one of the most visited sites and offered a series of attractions, including cultural shows, artistic craftwork and traditional cuisine. Under the slogan “Nicaragua, Única…Original”, the embassy drew the attention of over 2,000 people interested in knowing more about the unique cultural experience Nicaragua offers.

Some of the artistic presentations of Nicaragua included performances by renowned national artists Keyla Rodriguez and guitarist Christopher Arauz, as well as typical folklore dances. Another highlight of the day was the inauguration of the first phase of the Caribbean Coast Hall, which features craftwork from the North and South Atlantic Autonomous Regions of Nicaragua.

Nicaragua has recently been making headlines as an up-and-coming tourism and retirement destination mainly due to the high levels of personal safety the country offers, its rich colonial heritage, its unexplored and beautiful natural resources and the amiable spirit of its people. Evidence of this increasing interest in the country is the fact that during 2010, the country surpassed the mark of one million visitors, establishing a new record in tourism arrivals and representing an 8.5 percent growth versus 2009, one of the highest growth rates in the Central American region.

The tour, which is part of the celebrations of May as the International Cultural Awareness Month, allows residents and visitors of Washington D.C. to visit diplomatic missions in the city from around the world in order to get an inside look at what the different countries offer in terms of culture and tourism attractions.
