In 2011, BMI forecasts single-digit growth in consumer electronics spending after signs in 2010 that demand had stabilised. In the first half of 2010, sales remained in negative growth territory due largely to lower prices, which often offset rises in shipments. A digital TV broadcasting signal is now available to more than 50% of Czech households, while growing fixed and mobile broadband penetration will fuel demand for netbook computers and high-end handsets. Computers Computer hardware accounted for around 50% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2010 and will continue to be the largest product category. BMI forecasts Czech domestic market computer hardware sales, including notebooks and accessories, to be US$2.2bn in 2011, with low single-digit growth from 2010. Computer hardware CAGR for the 2011-2015 period is forecast at about 7.7%, driven by demand for wireless-equipped notebooks and tablets. AV AV devices accounted for around 37% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2010. The Czech Republic's addressable AV device market is estimated at US$1.6bn in 2011. Despite recent negative growth due to price erosion, a CAGR of 2.4% is projected for 2011- 2015, due largely to continued growth in the digital TV set category as the country progresses towards a 2011 analogue switch-off date. In Central Bohemia, a survey found that 74% of households had switched to digital broadcasting ahead of the transition date of October 31 2009. Mobile Handsets Mobile handset sales accounted for around 13% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2010. Czech market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 1.5% to US$581mn in 2015, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 133%. In 2010 lower average prices continued to put mobile handset revenues. Average handset retail prices continue to fall. Operators are looking to drive postpaid subscriptions by offering subsidised popular handsets such as the Apple iPhone 3G and Research In Motion's BlackBerry range.
