Naples Bowler in field at US Women's Bowling Open

June 20, 2011 - PRLog -- When the world’s top female bowlers converge on Dallas, Texas this weekend, Paula Cesare will be among them. The Naples resident admits to being a bit nervous as she prepares to compete in bowling’s US Women’s Open.

“I’m nervous and excited at the same time,” said Cesare, who works at Woodside Lanes in Naples. “I always feel like I perform better when the competition is at its best. The Women’s Open is the pinnacle of all tournaments any woman can bowl in. So I think it will be a great experience for me.”

Cesare earned her place in the US Women’s Open by finishing runner-up at a qualifying event held at Bowland Port Charlotte in April. The winner at that event was Kara Bunting, from Orlando, who will also be in the field at Euless Lanes in Texas. To date, more than 275 bowlers are entered into the field, which shatters the all time entrants’ record for the event. They are all vying for the top prize of $50,000.

“We are thrilled to have Paula represent Bowland Centers and all of the top lady bowlers from southwest Florida,” said Pat Ciniello, President of Bowland Centers. “It’s fantastic to see a young woman who learned the game at our centers now getting ready to take on the best in the world.”

The 28 year old Cesare, who has only been bowling for 11 years, will now face the likes of Kelly Kulick, the defending champion of the Women’s Open. Bowlers from as far away as England, Finland, Denmark, the Philippines and South Korea are also in the field. All bowlers will roll 24 games of qualifying over 3 days, beginning June 25. The step-ladder finals, featuring the top 5 bowlers after match-play concludes, will be staged on specially constructed lanes at the 50-yard line of the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX on June 30th.

The finals of the Women’s Open will be taped for broadcast and aired on ESPN2 on Saturday July 2nd. While it’s a long shot that Cesar will be on that show, she’s not ready to concede anything just yet. “When it’s time to bowl, I have just as much of a chance as any of the others. I can’t wait to get rolling!”
