Sun Shines on MedShare's Completion of Solar System Designed and Installed by Radiance Solar

Array designed to maximize solar power production will be dedicated in ribbon-cutting ceremony June 29th

June 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Radiance Solar and MedShare have completed installation of a 25-kilowatt solar power system at MedShare’s headquarters and distribution center in Decatur.  The MedShare solar power system will be dedicated in a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 29th at MedShare’s warehouse.

“At MedShare we are dedicated to improving healthcare and the environment through the efficient recovery and redistribution of medical supplies to those most in need. Incorporating solar power into our operations allows us to save on energy costs, decrease our carbon footprint, and ultimately ship more supplies, saving lives across the world,” says A.B. Short, CEO and Co-Founder of MedShare.

The MedShare solar system is the latest in a series of six photovoltaic installations in the Georgia Non-Profit Solar Project (GNPSP). Like all GNPSP projects, MedShare’s 25-kilowatt system was designed and installed at no cost to the organization, and made possible through the competitive renewable energy grant program administered by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA).  Radiance Solar and GEFA are set to deliver almost $1 million in solar energy infrastructure to Georgia non-profit organizations through their ongoing partnership in the GNPSP.

Radiance Solar designed the MedShare photovoltaic system using high-efficiency solar modules manufactured by Georgia-based Suniva. The system features 105 Suniva panels and is expected to produce 33,000 kWh per year, offsetting over 130,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year or the equivalent of almost 7,000 gallons of gasoline. The production of clean energy will allow MedShare to significantly reduce their energy-related operating expenses.  The solar system also features SMA inverters and monitoring, giving MedShare and the community the ability to track solar power production in real-time via a dedicated web portal.

The MedShare array was designed to maximize solar power production with the intention of feeding clean energy back into the Georgia Power electric grid. MedShare’s interconnection agreement is part of Georgia Power’s Green Power initiative, a program that pays a premium for clean energy that is generated and returned back to the grid.

“We are extremely proud of the MedShare solar installation, and of the support we’ve received from GEFA, Suniva and all of our non-profit partners,” says Radiance Solar CEO James Marlow. “Our non-profit solar projects demonstrate a commitment to supporting important organizations like MedShare, and provide visible evidence that solar is a clean, viable and growing alternative to coal-energy in Georgia.”

About MedShare:
MedShare is an innovative nonprofit organization with a dual mission to deliver surplus medical supplies to underserved populations around the world while lessening the impact of medical waste in the U.S. The organization collects surplus medical supplies and equipment from hospitals and manufacturers, and then redistributes them to qualified healthcare facilities in the developing world. To date, the organization has sent more than 670 tractor-trailer size containers of humanitarian aid to 87 developing countries and territories, and saved over 1.7 million cubic feet of medical surplus from landfills.
