June 19, 2011 - PRLog -- In 2009, America was faced with one of the worst recessions in the history of our nation. Millions became unemployed causing the unemployment rate to rise to above 10 percent, the highest its been in decades. Some economists have equated this recession to the Great Depression of the 1920s and 1930s. With this type of sky-high unemployment, it is imperative that job-seekers look for ways to differentiate themselves from the competition. The single most effective way to do just that is to improve one's own interview skills. Interviewing is often a make or break situation for any candidate. No matter how intelligent the candidate may be, a poor interview can destroy one's hopes of getting a job. This of course stressing that in order for anyone to be successful in the business world, they must be personable. Below are a few tips and secrets that will help you get that job you truly deserve.

Arrive to the interview 5 minutes before time.

Do not have a seat until the interviewers ask you to do so. It is important to show the utmost respect in this type of setting.

When sitting in your seat, sit at the upper half of the chair with your hands on your lap. Do not cross your legs during an interview because it may indicate a lack of seriousness on your part.

Be sure to look at all interviewers during the interview. Looking away can be seen as a sign of weakness.

Also, using their names before you speak by saying "Mr. Jones, what I think is..." can be effective in giving the interviewer a more personal touch.

After the interview, don't forget to shake all the interviewers' hands and thank them for the opportunity.

After you have gone home, it doesn't hurt to send your interviewers a thank you email indicating your gratitude for having been given this opportunity.

These are just the basics when it comes to interview etiquette. It is astounding how many job-seekers in our work force today have no idea of these very basic and rudimentary rules of interviewing. Nevertheless, following these tips will keep you a few steps ahead of the game and hopefully the competition for the job you plan on applying for. These tips have always helped me in the past and can help you as well! If you would like to know more about the origin of these interview secrets, look to the resource box below.
