By: Chemistry Public Relations Held annually during Earth Month, Waste Management’s “recyclables to books” program rewards Mission Viejo residents for their outstanding recycling efforts by making a donation based on the number of tons of recyclables saved from the landfill. Since the program launched in 2000, residents have recycled nearly 11,000 tons and Waste Management has donated nearly $55,000 to the organization. “The residents of Mission Viejo did an amazing job of recycling during the fundraising campaign and we applaud their efforts to keep this city clean and green,” said Michelle Clark, community relations manager for Waste Management. “We are proud to be Mission Viejo’s partner in sustainability and to be able to give back to the community through this program.” Waste Management representatives presented this year’s donation to Mission Viejo Mayor David Leckness and Friends of the Mission Viejo Library Board Member Dan Avery during a recent City Council meeting.
