June 15, 2011 - PRLog -- China has banned entry into the Himalayan mountain region of Tibet. Tourism authorities across the world are shocked over this unprecedented  move by China - being the 2nd time this year. Alexei Selivanov, president of Visa Center, predicts the ban may last until the end of August of 2011. He warns tourists and travel agencies not to book any travel to Tibet until this situation has been resolved. "China has put a dent into Tibet travel reputation yet again and I can only sympathize with travellers who have already finalized their bookings", Alexei Selivanov said this morning.

Tibet is a plateau region in Asia, north of the Himalayas. It is the traditional homeland of the Tibetan people as well as some other ethnic groups such as Monpas, Qiang, and Lhobas, and is inhabited by considerable numbers of Han and Hui people. Tibet is the highest region on earth, with an average elevation of 4,900 metres (16,000 ft).
Cultural/historical Tibet (highlighted) depicted with various competing territorial claims. Tibet Autonomous Region within the People's Republic of China is called the "Greater Tibet"; Tibet as claimed by Tibetan exile groups and Tibetan areas as designated by the People's Republic of China.

Tibet emerged in the 7th century as a unified empire, but it soon divided into a variety of territories. The bulk of western and central Tibet were often at least nominally unified under a series of Tibetan governments in Lhasa, Shigatse, or nearby locations; these governments were at various times under Mongol and Chinese overlordship.
