Follow on Google News | Xaverian Provincial Celebrates Jubilee AnniversaryFather Carl Chudy, SX, celebrates 25 years as a Xaverian Missionary.
By: Mary Aktay, Dir. of Communication, Xaverian Miss. He first became aware his vocation as a seventeen year old serving in the Air Force. “I didn’t originally want to be a priest. I went to mass while on the base because it reminded me of home. I became aware of a call to the priesthood which I felt like I needed to explore.” Born on April 24, 1957, in Philadelphia PA, Father Carl attended Rutgers University and graduated from St. Francis de Sales College in Milwaukee with degrees in philosophy and sociology. Further studies were done in religious formation and psychology in the Philippines. He did a ministry internship in Sierra Leone, Africa from 1980 to 1981 and studied theology at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago from 1981 to 1986. Fr. Chudy was on the Xaverian vocation ministry team and youth program from 1986 to 1994. He then served in the Philippines from 1994 to 2007 as formation director, parochial vicar, pastor of St, Francis Xavier parish. He was appointed Superior of the Philippine Delegation by the General Direction of the Xaverian Missionaries in Rome. He returned to the United States to work in vocation ministry and youth outreach in Holliston, MA, and was elected Provincial Superior of the United States Province of the Xaverian Missionaries in 2008. When asked about his vocation Fr. Carl responds: “What power can propel a human heart 25 years and more in the mission of the Church? The answer is found in the Feast of Pentecost! Any commitment that involves love and dedication is a work of the Spirit. Our founder, soon to Saint Guido Maria Conforti, often cited the words of St. Paul; ‘The love of Christ impels us.’ It’s the power of the Spirit that is involved here and I try to cooperate.” # # # About the Xaverian Missionaries: Mission: “We share the Love of Christ with people across different faiths and cultures, by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus in new Christian churches. Inspired by St. Francis Xavier and Blessed Guido M. Conforti, we are a Catholic religious community committed to serving God in the poor.” End
