Son of San Antonio's John Quiñones Lands Film Fest.

Miami, Florida, June 11, 2011 – Nicco Quiñones, 20, a young filmmaker with deep connections to San Antonio, was selected to show his film, "Going…Somewhere," at the 2011 San Antonio Film Festival on Saturday, June 25th.

The film tells the story of Berkshire County, Massachusetts through the eyes of Pete Nardacci, a life-long resident. The town, once vibrant, was abandoned by General Electric, the city's biggest employer. Now in his forties, Nardacci contemplates leaving his hometown.

"Quiñones captures the sentiment of post-recession America with astonishing accuracy," says Zach Rosenstock, a Cinema Studies major at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Currently a junior at NYU Tisch programs, this is Quiñones' third documentary. When he was 13 he made An American Dream, which won CSPAN's National Campaign Cam competition in 2004. In his junior year of high school, he interned for director Spike Lee. Quiñones made Anything but Kings - about an American's efforts to help Mayan orphans in Guatemala- when he was a senior.

Quiñones has been making films all his life and has found a strong example in his father, John Quiñones. A San Antonio native who now hosts the ABC Network's "What Would You Do?," he has inspired his son to shine light on injustice with films.

Quiñones' was one of the few 172 films selected from hundreds of submissions from around the world for exhibition at the historic Instituto Cultural de Mexico, at HemisFair Park.

“There was no question on whether or not I would go,” said Quiñones on his films selection, “screening in the hometown of my grandfather and his family is a great honor. I couldn't be more excited.”

It's only suiting that Quiñones' film was somewhat of a family effort. His brother Julian Quiñones, 26, accompanied his brother on the shoot in Massachusetts and produced the film. Going....Somewhere was Quiñones' final project for his documentary semester at Tisch and premiered at the Soho International Film Festival in March.

"Going…Somewhere" will screen Saturday, June 25th on the Orozco Screen in the short film section between 2-5 p.m.

The 17th annual San Antonio film festival will give awards and announce winners on Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th.
