Issuance Of U.S. Patent For Marking And Tracking Classified Information In Electronic Documents

Digitaltide’s unique patented capability makes WikiLeaks type debacles preventable.
June 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Digitaltide Solutions Inc. announces the issuance of their first patent, U.S. Patent No. 7,958,147, for a unique classification and marking method for national security and sensitive information in electronic documents. The methods provide assurance of proper classification procedure and marks and provides control and oversight for information on computer systems. A configurable classification regime supports and controls user classification activities in document development software applications and Digitaltide’s processes provide security oversight for the document classification activity, as well as the movement and the access to electronic documents. Computer activities involving electronic documents are monitored, such as removing classification marks or downgrading a document classification as well as the movement of documents to removable document storage media, etc.. These activities generate warnings and alerts to security personnel responsible for the protection of the information.

Digitaltide’s Chief Executive Officer, Robert Turner, stated “Most people do not understand the complexity of the U.S. classification system for national security and sensitive information. Beyond the classification levels that most people are familiar: Unclassified, Confidential, Secret and Top Secret, there are thousand of caveats and handing marks for special access programs and compartmented intelligence, as well as the foreign classification designations of our allies, and these marks are required for proper document classification. In addition, each document requires the authority to classify and declassifcation information. Classifying information is a difficult process to do correctly. Digitaltide products assists users to classify and mark electronic documents, ensure that the marks are persistent and identify and warn on user or operating system activities, inadvertent or intentional, that may pose security risk to the information in an electronic document. The recent Wikileaks debacle would have been prevented had our products been in use on the system.”

The patent covers the technology of Digitaltide’s Classification Marker Suite(CM-Suite) unique process and products.  Additional patents are pending.
