-- “Celebrating Community Service” was the theme of an awards dinner hosted by Soroptimist International of Moreno Valley on June 6, 2011 to recognize many local and international projects to improve the lives of women and children. This annual event was also the venue for Soroptimist to distribute a total of $8,500 to fourteen local non-profit groups who make a positive difference in our community. Recipients of cash awards included Riverside County Regional Medical Center (RCRMC) Foundation, RCRMC Child Abuse & Neglect Unit, YWCA of Riverside County Born Free Program, Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center, Alternatives to Domestic Violence Shelter, Friends of the Moreno Valley Senior Center, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and Community Assistance Program. Within the past ten months, Moreno Valley Soroptimists supported 31 different local and international projects through hand-on service and cash sponsorships totaling $21,787. In the club’s 28-year history in Moreno Valley, over $212, 000 has been given back to the community.
