Sandown Park (RUK)
20: Richard Hannon landed this prize in 2003 and 2004 and with Richard Hughes booked he tries his luck again with El Diamante. The favourite has won 60% of the last 10 runnings.

50: A 3 year-old contest here, but simply rule out any horse bigger than 8/1 in the betting – all eight recent winners returned between 4/1 and 8/1.

25: Not a lot to go on here with plenty of these 2 year-olds having their first runs, but it’s another contest that the market has seemingly got right over the years with all 10 recent runnings going to a horse 6/1 or less in the betting. Godolphin landed the spoils 12months ago and Frankie gets the leg-up on their Special Boy, who has the benefit of a previous outing.

35: Sir Michael Stoute sent out Greek Well to win this back in 2007 so the fact he runs Markazzi is worth noting, while the other key recent factor is that all of the last three runnings were won by a 6 year-old – just Greylami, Moynahan and Ellemujie fall into that category this year.

05: NH trainer Alan King is often one to note when he sends one over the flat – he took this race in 2006 and runs a similar type in Secret Edge this time. The only other stat that leaps off the page here is that all of the last five winners carried 9-1 or more, suggesting that those at the top of the card are the ones to focus on – this stat knocks out the bottom four Swaininstockwell, Peira, Sugar Hiccup and Uncle Dermo

Goodwood (RUK)

15: Trainer John Dunlop targeted this race successfully in 2009 and 2001 and the fact he sends two to post this time – Star Alliance and Fleeting Tiger – suggests he means business again. The favourite has also won three of the last 4 runnings.

45: Jeremy Noseda has his string in fine fettle so any market support for his unraced Galiando should be noted, but the Hannon team, who won this race in 2006, try the first-time visor on their Puttingonthestyle and that could be the answer to this one breaking his duck after just getting touched off at Windsor last month.

20: This race should be easy to unravel – simply back Hughie Morrison’s Valencha. The Berkshire-based handler has won three of the last 5 runnings, including the last two! The last three victors have also been 4 year-olds, another positive tick for the Morrison-trained runner.

55: Sir Michael Stoute boasts an impressive 30% strike-rate with his 3 year-old vqzai here at Goodwood, while he also took this contest 12 months ago – he runs Profondo Rosso this time. Five of the last 6 winners carried 9-0 or more, giving big pluses to the top three on the card – Club Oceanic, Tiger Webb and Zain Shamardal.

30: Richard Hannon took this last year and in 2004 and he runs two this time – Greenflash and Admirable Spirit – with the former, based on jockey bookings (Richard Hughes), looking his main hope. 8 of the last 10 winners returned 9/1 or shorter in the betting.

00: Only four previous races to go on, but all four were won by a 5 year-old. If this is to be repeated then the winner will be Volito, Gracie’s Games, Simple Rhythm or Luisa Tetrazzini. The last three winners also returned at fairly big prices, 12/1, 18/1 and 16/1 so don’t be put off if your fancy is further down the betting.
