First Miller Family YMCA Independence Day 5K Run/Walk & Car Show

June 9, 2011 - PRLog -- NEWBURY PARK, CALIF.--Celebrate July 4th with an old-fashioned community get-together and 5K Run/Walk at the Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park (in the Paraíso Center, 320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park).

   The first-ever Miller Y Independence Day 5K Run/Walk starts at 7:30 a.m. Runners and walkers will wind their way around the Dos Vientos neighborhood before finishing back at the Y. The walk is family and stroller-friendly.

   An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast ($5 per person, free for 5K entrants) begins 8:00 a.m. as well as a classic car show. A patriotic community parade begins at 9:00 a.m., at the Dos Vientos Community Center and ends at the Paraíso Center. There will also be a free kids' fun zone and live entertainment.

   "The Y's Independence Day Run/Walk provides a healthy start to July 4," says Katie Beck, Miller Y's executive director. "The entire morning will be a fun community experience regardless of whether you participate in the Run or Walk."

   All 5K participants receive a t-shirt. To register early, go to http://www.active.com and type in Miller Family YMCA. Online registration is $25 per person, $60 per family (immediate family only). Registration is also available on Sunday, July 3 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Road Runner Sports (1714 Newbury Park, 805-372-1415) and on event day.
