Tommy Morrison escapes Kansas drug charges

Two drug charges leveled by Kansas officials against heavyweight boxer Tommy Morrison have been dropped. The reason for this has nothing to do with the actual case, but rather because the state trooper who made the arrest has passed away.

June 8, 2011 - PRLog -- The charges against Tommy Morrison that were dropped included possession of hallucinogenic drugs with two previous convictions, and with the misdemeanor of possession with the intention to use drug paraphernalia. The drug possession charge was classified as a felony because of the previous convictions.

Kansas state officials stated that the case could not go on without the trooper.

While it is all well to crack down on anyone who is abusing drugs, and there has been a trend to try to make an example out of celebrities, the real solution to drug abuse in Kansas and in the United States at large lies in effective rehabilitation and education as to the dangers of drugs.
