Miami-Dade Mayoral Candidates to Discuss Issues at Policy Forum, June 8, in Coral Gables

The forum is organized by The Miami Foundation and sponsored by El Nuevo Herald, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, the Knight Foundation, The Miami Herald and WPBT-2.

June 8, 2011 - PRLog -- CORAL GABLES, FL – June 8, 2011 – Today the two candidates in the runoff for Miami-Dade County mayor, Carlos Gimenez and Julio Robaina, will face each other at The Miami Foundation’s policy forum on the most important issues affecting our community.

Dan Grech, radio news director of the WLRN Miami Herald Report, Myriam Marquez, editorial page editor of the Miami Herald, and Manny Garcia, executive editor of El Nuevo Herald, will serve as panelists.

The forum will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, at the University of Miami - Newman Alumni Center, 6200 San Amaro Drive, Coral Gables, FL 33146.

Gimenez at 29 percent and Robaina at 34 percent qualified for the run-off as the top vote-getters in a May 24 special election that drew 11 candidates.  The election will be held June 28.

“We are committed to creating an informed electorate and encouraging civic involvement,” said Javier Alberto Soto, president and CEO of The Miami Foundation. “We want to get beyond the politics and focus on the policy issues affecting Miami-Dade County.”
