ADA Of Greater Philadelphia To Honor Local Business Leaders At 2011 Father Of The Year Awards Gala

June 8, 2011 - PRLog -- The American Diabetes Association of Greater Philadelphia today announced the recipients of the Father of the Year Award for 2011. The Father of the Year Award recognizes local business and community leaders for balancing a highly successful career with the demands of being an exemplary role model for their children.  The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 5:30 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel.  Comedian Joe Conklin will serve as emcee, and retired NBA star Dominique Wilkins will serve as the celebrity guest speaker.

The 2011 honorees include:

•   Ronald B. Matthew, Jr., Market President of Greater Philadelphia, TD Bank
•   Michael A. Rashid, President and CEO, The AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies
•   Daniel L. Woodall, Jr., President , Philadelphia Laborers' District Council  & Business Manager - Local 135

The 2011 Father of the Year Awards and Dinner is 5th annual event held in Philadelphia.  Since the first event in 2007, the honored fathers and Father's Day Council members have raised over $900,000.  These funds help support the advocacy, research and information initiatives of the American Diabetes Association and fulfill its mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.  Previous honorees include former Philadelphia Eagles Donovan McNabb and Ron Jaworski, Firstrust Bank CEO Timothy J. Abell, Campbell Soup Company CEO Douglas R. Conant, KPMG Managing Partner Jerry J. Maginnis, and other business, civic, and sports leaders.

“We at the ADA have had the pleasure of working with many esteemed fathers in the past, but these four gentlemen are in a league of their own,” said Russell Moore, Executive Director of the ADA of Greater Philadelphia.  “Their unparalleled dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles through their actions have made them role models for their children as well as the rest of the Philadelphia area.  We are so pleased to have the opportunity to honor them this year.”

Ron is President of the Greater Philadelphia Market for TD Bank and oversees all commercial lending and retail banking services throughout the Philadelphia, Bucks County and the Lehigh Valley area. He began his banking career 21 years ago. He has served as a Board Member of the Greater Atlantic County Chamber of Commerce since 2000, and is presently a member of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.  Ron is a board member for the Arts & Business Council. Ron is also a member of his church's finance committee, and devotes some of his free time to coaching youth sports in his community. Ron graduated from Ursinus College in 1989 with a B.A. in Economics, and was inducted into the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. Ron and his wife reside in South Jersey and have six children.

Michael leads one of the largest organizations of publicly funded managed care health plans and related businesses in the country. Under his guidance, AmeriHealth Mercy is committed to helping people get care, stay well and build healthy communities. Michael is a devoted father of four children and four grandchildren, and his mentoring extends beyond his family life. He is a tireless advocate for education, and he has personally mentored many. He exemplifies his position of role model for AmeriHealth Mercy’s associates.  His contributions to the community have resulted in a variety of honors and awards. Most recently, he was recognized by the Philadelphia Martin Luther King, Jr. Association for Nonviolence, Inc., with the Drum Major Award for Corporate Social Responsibility.

Daniel L. Woodall, Jr.
President, Philadelphia Laborers' District Council

In 1970 Daniel joined the Laborers’ Local 135 and is presently the Elected Business Manager, a position he has held since 1987.  He has been President of the Laborers’ District Council of Metropolitan Area of Philadelphia and Vicinity since 1991. Daniel has received numerous honors including 1992 “Man of the Year” for Friends of Labor.  He was honored by Unico’s Salute to Labor 2000 and received the Gold Medal of Achievement from Philadelphia Chapter of Unico. Dan is very involved in the community he has been an active member of the Philadelphia chapter of Boys’ Towns of Italy and Unico. Dan is happily married to Maxine Woodall and they have two lovely daughters, Traci and Danelle.
