June 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Boy Scout Troop 333 ( online at http://www.thefamilytroop.org ) is dynamic troop of homeschool, private and public school children and their families. The scouts, who reside in the Charlotte, NC metro region come from diverse cities and backgrounds. This “Family Troop” has selected a beautiful but overlooked location for revitalization as a long-term service project.

Why Service Projects?
Putting into practice the ideals of scouting, and the scout law - a scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent - is a mainstay of boy scouting. Scouts are not only responsible for living the ideals personally but also enabling others in their community.

Our troop will be coordinating with a local site that requires revitalization and repair, to make that dream happen. Many older facilities are scattered around North Carolina, that have fallen into disrepair over the years. They just may not hold the luster they once did and communities forget about them in favor of more modern locations.

One such gem in the rough is located a little north of Charlotte. Once our scout troop has completed its tasks at the end the planned year-long renovation we will announce the site to show off the work, and let others enjoy our work.

Service projects give us the impetus to put into action what we have been taught in scouting. We gain new skills and abilities, and then give back to the community by providing the labor needed to repair, replace or renovate locations.

Scouts can be found clearing brush, removing garbage from streams and waterways, repairing footpaths and benches, and other items throughout the country. This sometimes invisible army is ready to work hard while they enjoy each others’ company. It also prepares scouts for adulthood when their volunteer efforts will be needed by others. Laying this foundation of service is one of the hallmarks of scouting and the reason why boys get involved - it is a matter of pride in their work and communities. They willingly share their efforts with others to show young people around them what striving for a goal is all about.

We Seek More Corporate Sponsors
Our troop is very fortunate and already has a corporate sponsor to help defray uniform and some other costs. We are still pursuing companies interested in donating supplies or funds to purchase hardware, garden supplies, raw materials, lumber, tools, paint and more. Our scouts are eager to get to work. Our planned long-term service project will be highlighted soon on our website.

The Boy Scouts of America® saw a decrease in United Way funding this past two years, to the point where most troops receive no dollars at all, unless the local council is specifically indicated by the employee when they designate charitable funds.

If you own a company that would like to support a worthwhile venture and have only a small amount to contribute, our troop may be perfect for you. We will have advertising opportunities available in public venues, yet because we are a small troop, our needs are fewer. We welcome all inquiries. Troop 333 would like to show you How Good Scouting Can Be!

About Us: Online efficiency at our troop!
Troop 333 encourages interactive online meetings through our unique private scout server. Meal, menu, duty roster and camping planning can all take place in live chat, forums, with complete forms upload and editing capabilities. This way scouts can concentrate on more fun physical activity during meetings and hold administrative meetings online in off hours.
