BCA’S PEARL® EMR Obtains Impressive Usability Rating

June 7, 2011 - PRLog -- The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®) rated BCA’s (Business Computer Applications, Inc.) electronic medical record system—PEARL® EMR Version 7—an impressive 4 out of 5 stars for usability in its independently developed CCHIT Certified® 2011 Ambulatory EHR certification program.  

This rating reflects the overall effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction that users experience when performing a variety of tasks within the system. In particular, it evaluates accuracy in completing tasks, the time and effort used to complete these tasks, and the users’ subjective responses to working with the application.

The rating process is both integrated into the clinical workflow portion of the inspection and reviewed again at the inspection conclusion.  All scores are complied and averaged.  Performing usability evaluation is essential to CCHIT’s mission because highly usable systems are likely to increase EHR adoption and less usable systems could require more training and decrease adoption.
