June 7, 2011 - PRLog -- If you sell interesting stuff, are a talented street performer or would otherwise like to contribute to the success of the hugely popular annual street fair in Nunney, near Frome on the Somerset / Wiltshire border, now is the time to sign up!

Nunney Street Market and Fayre takes place in the streets around the moated 14th century Nunney Castle on Saturday 6 August 2011 from 10am till 5.30pm.  Many people still don’t realise there is a castle right in the centre of the village, but Nunney Castle – with its four round towers and moat – is proper fairytale stuff.  Nunney itself has over 30 listed buildings, including a keep (prison), historic country inn, rose-covered cottages and a Grade I listed church with medieval effigies of knights.

Now in its 36th year, Nunney fair’s live music, food and drink and over 100 stalls attract thousands of visitors from across Somerset and Wiltshire.  Stalls include plant sales, books, collectibles, charities, arts and crafts to food and drink, toys, fashion and jewellery.  Entertainer Chester the Clown will perform shows throughout the day for kids of all ages.

The history of the Nunney Street Market and Fayre goes back to 1260, when King Henry III granted a royal market charter to the local lord of the manor, Henry de Montfort. Revived in 1975, the Nunney Street Market and Fayre is a firm favourite among Somerset events and a great day out for the whole family.

The 2011 Nunney Street Market and Fayre will have a classic motor sports theme in honour of a former lord of the manor of Nunney and racing legend, the late Rob Walker.  In the 50s and 60s Rob was owner of the most successful privately-owned Formula One team in racing history, employing iconic drivers such as Sir Stirling Moss. A display of classic cars and an exhibition of world-famous trophies, memorabilia and photos are scheduled for Saturday 6 August.

The deadline for stall bookings is 2 July.  The organisers have launched a beautiful new website http://www.visitnunney.com, with full details of the 2011 Nunney Street Market and Fayre for stallholders and visitors.  A standard 3 x 2 metre pitch is available for just £25.

Jeremy Gaunt, Event Manager for the 2011 Nunney Street Market and Fayre, says:

“Following last year’s 750th anniversary celebrations we are confident that this year’s fair will once again be a great day out for visitors of all ages.  A great line-up of classic cars and a motor sports exhibition will be a big draw this year, but there will be truly something for everyone with street entertainers, bands, plant sales and more interesting stalls than you can shake a stick at.”

“Bookings are coming in fast as a result of the new website.  I would advise anyone who wants a stall to get their application in as soon as possible, because the space available in the centre of the village is limited.  We also want to hear from talented buskers and other entertainers.”

The 2011 Nunney Street Market and Fayre takes place on Saturday 6 August 10.00am - 5.30pm in Nunney, 3 miles south west of Frome off the A361. Admission is free, but a £3 parking charge applies.  Nunney Street Market and Fayre is organised by the Nunney Community Association, a registered charity.
